B'Tselem: Israel demolished more Palestinian homes in past 6 months than in all of 2015

Israeli authorities have demolished more Palestinian homes in the West Bank in the first six months of 2016 as they did in all of 2015, Israeli human rights group B’Tselem revealed in a report released on Wednesday, in a worrying confirmation of Israel’s ongoing crackdown on Palestinian communities in Area C of the West Bank.

The report, which was also presented by the Arab Joint List during a Knesset conference on Israel’s home demolition policy the same day, said that 168 homes were destroyed during the first half of 2016 for lacking hard to obtain Israeli-issued building permits, leaving 740 Palestinians homeless.

B’Tselem’s report did not include punitive demolitions enacted on the home of suspected Palestinian attackers and their families.

The B’Tselem tally marked a higher count than the total number of houses destroyed by Israeli each year in the past decade, with the exception of 2013, when 175 homes were demolished.

The 2016 statistics marked a drastic increase from 2015, when 125 homes were demolished, leaving 496 Palestinians without a home. >>>

West Bank home demolitions hit 10-year high

Natasha Roth - Israeli authorities have demolished more Palestinian homes in the occupied West Bank thus far in 2016 than in any other calendar year in the last decade, according to data provided by Israeli human rights NGO B’Tselem Wednesday and statistics from the UN humanitarian agency, OCHA.

B’Tselem’s statistics show that the Civil Administration, the Israeli military’s governing arm in the West Bank, destroyed 168 Palestinian homes between January 1 and June 30, 2016, displacing 740 people, including 348 children. A further 12 West Bank Palestinian dwellings were destroyed between July 1 and July 18, displacing a further 62 people, according to figures provided to +972 Magazine by OCHA. This brings the total for the year so far to at least 180 homes demolished — surpassing the previous high of the 175 dwellings destroyed in 2013.

Since 2006, B’Tselem reports, Israel has destroyed at least 1,113 Palestinian homes in the West Bank, not including punitive home demolitions. As a result, at least 5,199 Palestinians have been displaced, around half of whom are minors. >>>

Palestinian forced to demolish his house in Jerusalem

 - A Palestinian Jerusalemite, Abdul-Naset Qara’een, demolished part of his house located in Wadi al-Hilaw area in East Jerusalem’s Silwan neighbourhood, Felessteen newspaper reported on Monday. Qara’een demolished a 22-metre-square room he built for his son because his house is very small and he has daughters living in the only bedroom in the house.

“I demolished the room after an order had been issued to me by the Israeli occupation court stipulating that it must be demolished before the start of the next month,” he said. He added: “I demolished it with my hands to avoid paying over NIS 65,000 ($17,000) if the Israeli bulldozers demolished it.” Qara’een explained his feelings after demolishing his house: “It is the most difficult situation when someone demolishes his own house which he built it with his own hands.” >>>

26.07.16 - 27.07.16. - ISRAEL's illegal military occupation strikes again in Palestinian territories! Last night in north Hebron, Surif village, one young Palestinian man was murdered-Muhammad Faqih, 5 injured, others including his mother arrested! Israel conducted a typical, full on military assault style attack on his family home using anti-tank missiles. The house was literally destroyed and then bulldozed!

Israel ALLEGES, Farqih was involved in a drive by shooting on July 1 which killed an Israeli settler and injured his family members. The Israeli murdered settler himself was infamous and deeply hated in those parts for his extreme racist, aggressive behaviour towards Palestinians!

This is just another example of ISRAELI INJUSTICE and more REVENGE KILLING and COLLECTIVE PUNISHMENT against Palestinians! There is NO DUE PROCESS OF LAW for Palestinians.. Israel makes identity mistakes all the time! Hebron is under serious attack and pressure and incitement from Israel! Why does the world accept this situation??? ‪#‎freepalestine‬ ‪#‎endisraelioccupation‬ ‪#‎apartheid‬ ‪#‎cnn‬ ‪#‎bbc‬ ‪#‎guardian‬ ‪#‎huffingtonpost‬ ‪#‎BDS‬ >>>

What the economic boycott of Israel can achieve - Nada Elia - A recent OpEd in +972 Magazine claims that an economic boycott of Israel is bound to fail, and goes on to discuss the reasons why that is. Comparing apartheid-era South Africa to present-day Israel (which should one day also be referred to as “apartheid-era Israel”) the author, Yonathan Mizrachi, explains that Western and industrialized countries in the 1990s (during the anti-South African apartheid boycott) made up 62% of the world economy, but that this percentage has now dwindled to 38.8%, and thus, “economically speaking, a boycott by Western states would be less effective today than in the past.”

The operative expression in Mizrachi’s analysis is “economically speaking.” And in that respect, many Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) organizers agree with him. Most of us are fully aware that we can boycott every single consumer product available in every single store in the United States, and that it would still not make a dent in Israel’s economy. If it did make a significant dent, the US would probably increase its aid package to Israel even more. >>>

A Knesset Without Arabs - Eman Elshaikh - On Wednesday July 20, Israel’s Knesset passed an “Expulsion Law,” which allows members of the legislative body to unseat elected representatives by a three-fourths majority vote. This might not seem unusual; many governments have measures in place for impeaching delinquent members. But, as journalist Michael Schaeffer Omer-Man wrote for 972 magazine, “those countries don’t have rich histories of trying to ban politicians of one ethnic group.”

Israel, on the other hand, has an incredibly rich history of persecuting Palestine’s political leadership. And this new law is an unusually useful instrument in accomplishing this.

The new law permits seventy out of 120 members to call for a parliamentary committee to look into whether particular Knesset members are involved in inciting racism, violence, or treason against the State of Israel. Subsequently, those parliamentarians who are found to be “guilty” of these charges by 90 members of the legislating body may be expelled.

How is guilt determined? That is not entirely clear, as there is no specific set of provisions in the law designed to ensure transparency or due process. Another strange feature of the law is that it at first seems somewhat redundant. This is because under current Israeli law, >>>

Nazi Resister Returns Holocaust Medal to Israel After Losing Relatives in Gaza

Veröffentlicht am 19.08.2014  - http://www.democracynow.org - A 91-year-old man honored by Israel for saving a Jewish life during the Nazi Holocaust has returned his medal in protest of the Gaza assault. Henk Zanoli was given Israel’s Righteous Among the Nations award for his actions under Nazi occupation in Amsterdam. In 1943, Zanoli smuggled out a Jewish boy and helped hide him in his home for two years, despite Nazi suspicion he and his family backed the resistance. Zanoli’s father was executed in a concentration camp and his brother-in-law executed as a resistance fighter. But last week, Zanoli returned his medal to the Israeli Embassy in The Hague, saying that Israeli bombings of Gaza had killed six of his relatives. His grandniece is married to a Palestinian man who lost three brothers, a sister-in-law, a nephew and his father’s first wife in a bombing of their home last month.

Zanoli writes: "For me to hold on to the honor granted to me by the State of Israel under these circumstances, would be an insult … to those in my family, four generations on, who lost no less than six of their relatives in Gaza." Zanoli added: "The actions of your state in Gaza these days have already resulted in serious accusations of war crimes and crimes against humanity. … It would be of no surprise to me that these accusations could lead to possible convictions if true and unpoliticized justice is able to have its course. What happened to our kin in Gaza will no doubt be brought to the table at such a time as well." >>>
